Charles R. Perry Building Construction Institute
This 27,000 GSF facility for Santa Fe Collegewas funded in part by the widow of
a local contractor. This man’s celebrated
legacy was to increase the level ofskilled tradesmenship in the Gainesvillearea. Accordingly, the purpose of this facility is to house programs that teach students various trades as well as construction management.
The building itself was designed as a teaching tool, exposing various MEPFT and architectural systems for the purpose of visualizing how a building and its systems come together.
Danny worked with facilities, the user groupsand the CM from early schematic
design, and produced all the design andconstruction documents to meet their needs and stay within a tight budget. Icreated VE options for the building afterschematic pricing from the CM. One of these schemes was developed into the building envelope that was finally selected. I have also seen this building through construction, performing all construction administration tasks required, including fi eld visits and reports, pay application review, shop drawing review and LEED services. The facility is expected to achieve LEED Gold Certifi cation, and is an exemplary project for the area, boasting a 25Kw photovoltaic laminate system, solar water heating, and other MEP and building envelope systems that save energy and conserve resources.
